A good day always starts with a good sleep. And a good breakfast. And perhaps a decent cup of coffee. And some orange juice. I don’t know about you, but my start to a weekend morning is a lengthy one. Everything has to be in order. Well, it’s nice if it’s in order and even better if you’re in a hotel and it’s all laid on. No dishes, I know, it has to be the best bit!
Despite the glorious weather we had yesterday here at Donington Park the slight dip in temperature and sunshine hasn’t dampened our spirits at all. We’re all looking forward to a brilliant day of motor sport. Can Gordon Flash Shedden win Race 1 from pole, can Matt Neal win Race 2(?), his 500th BTCC appearance. Can either Matt or Flash win Race 3? It’s all ahead of us so plenty to look forward to. Meanwhile, I’ve started work on the podcast (which you can download from iTunes) so shall leave this blog until the end of today’s races.
Ok, here we are then. All done and dusted. No less than three podium finishes for Flash, including a win in Race 1 and two podium finishes for Matt. It’s been a good day in all for the Honda Yuasa Racing team.
However, what I’m sure you want to know about is what happens in between? Well, the life of a BTCC reporter is a fairly luxurious one. We’re well catered for, there were bacon baps at breakfast until half ten (although I’d had my breakfast at the hotel), roast carvery lunch (Turkey or Gammon, sir?) and a spread of desserts. Added to this we have a truck load of chocolate bars and a grab-a-handful of pic ‘n’ mix type sweets. So, as you can imagine, as Matt and Flash are working hard hammering it around the track, we’re back in the media lorry typing up blogs, editing interviews and eating sweets. Sweet! More behind-the-scenes stories next time, behind-the-scenes stories fans!
