GB Women’s Hockey Squad Announced for Rio 2016
The 16 player squad for the 2016 summer Olypmics in Rio has been announced and contains a perfect split between experience and youth. 8 players will return to Olympic action having played in at least one edition of the competition before, while 8 squad members will experience and Olympic games for the first time.
Kate Richardson-Walsh is set to captain Great Britain once again at an Olympics after leading the team to Bronze at London 2012. Crista Cullen is returning to the squad having retired from the sport completely after London, while Helen Richardson-Walsh will be competing at her fourth games for Great Britain.
Lily Owsley and Joie Leigh are amongst those hoping to provide the youthful flair to the team in their first Olympics, with experienced tournament defender Sam Quek hoping to add Olympic Gold to her trophy case.
