My Royal Ascot – Bobby’s Blog
Cheltenham Festivals, Grand National, Ebor and St Leger’s, are all meetings I have covered over the years but this year for the first time I was offered the opportunity to cover the five days of the Royal meeting for Lloyd Bell Productions. To say I was excited was an understatement.
I arrived on the Tuesday to 30 degree heat already for the week ahead. I walked round the course taking it all in, it was amazing.
Over the period of the 5 days, I was getting features ahead of racing with a variety of different people from the person in charge of the Ascot shop to the ice cream stall.
When racing had commenced, then it got exciting. Getting interviews with wining connections, previews for the following day and getting the chance to see some of the best horses that dominate the flat season. To say the hours were long, the days went fast, by the time I knew it, it were Saturday evening and time to make the three and half hour journey back home.
There were so many highlights of my time there, a few to mention. I got my first interview with Aidan O’Brien, he was very polite and I were so happy I got the chance to speak to him. Also, it were great to see a fair few Yorkshire trained horses pass the post first especially on the Saturday with Snoano winning the Wolferton, former Great St Wilfrid winner Out Do taking the Wokingham and Oriental Fox recording win number 2 in the Queen Alexandra. And not forgetting Ribchesters’ win in the Queen Anne and Permian winning the King Edward VII.
It was fantastic to be apart of such a fantastic meeting on the racing calendar, already looking forward to next year.
